Since middle school, I found myself enraptured in singing and choreographed dancing. I have recently been in The Prom (as pictured) and Spring Awakening as part of Rise Above Performing Arts’ featured alumni shows. Some older credits of mine involve being in Bring It On, SpongeBob, Anastasia, Sound of Music, Legally Blonde, All Shook Up, and Carrie.
College has allowed me to step away from the continuous musical scene and in turn, opened the door to plays that I had never read before. Last year, I was cast in Radium Girls (dir. Brittney Brady) as Madame Curie, that being the very first play in my theatrical experience. As of late, I’ve been in The Skin of Our Teeth (shown to the left) as Gladys Antrobus and in The Good Doctor as Woman/Wife (both dir. Barry Cavin). In April, I will be Kaliope in She Kills Monsters (dir. Daniel Bacalzo)! On the side, I worked a part-time gig for Players Circle in presenting short plays in order to spread awareness about Climate Change Theatre Action.
To be quite honest, I started opera when I was in elementary school and when I didn’t fully understand what it was all about. It became abundantly clear over the duration of my years there that classical singing brought such a unique aspect to my repertoire. Breathing and posture and intention are such important values to keep in mind when being in an opera. I also realized that I found such a strong community and support system, so as a result, I ended up spending practically a decade with the Sarasota Youth Opera program. The picture is from a production of The Little Sweep, where I had the wonderful privilege of being transformed into George Brook.
Coupled with my musical theatre interests, I decided to join a childhood friend in learning to play instruments and the rest is history! I gradually improved my skillset by knowing how to play the ukulele, the piano, and the drums (at a basic level). From there I wanted to learn the guitar, so I aspire to be quite proficient in that as well.
